There’s a difference between seeing a photo on a screen and standing in front of it. A screen is backlit and small. A good print is something else — it has presence. And an acrylic print, in particular, does something to a night sky that a monitor never can.
So I’m glad to share that my Milky Way — Port Alberni image is now hanging at Bombers Café and Crêperie right here in Port Alberni, where you can see exactly what I mean.
The shot was taken from the quiet hills above Port Alberni on Vancouver Island. No light pollution, no rush — just the Milky Way arching over a silhouetted forest and mountain ridge. It’s one of those scenes that makes you feel small in the best possible way, and I wanted a print that did it justice.
That’s why this one is a 30 × 17 acrylic. Acrylic prints are face-mounted to a panel of clear acrylic, which gives the image real depth and a luminous, almost lit-from-within quality. Blacks stay deep, the stars hold their sparkle, and the whole thing reads more like a window than a poster. For a night sky, it’s the format that finally lets the image breathe.
